The travel accommodation giant seems to be finally looking at adding crypto payments by 2022.

CEO Brian Chesky recently took to Twitter to reveal that crypto-backed bookings are the number one request this year.

On January 3, Chesky asked his Twitter followers for recommendations related to Airbnb. After skimming through thousands of tweets, he concluded that crypto is clearly leading.

This is followed by a clear pricing display, loyalty program, cleaning fees, and customer service that needs improvement.

Chesky says he's seen many token ideas, which means Airbnb's future crypto payments won't be limited to one or two tokens.

He also added that Airbnb has been processing $336 billion worth of payments since 2013.

Airbnb currently accepts Visa, MasterCard, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and PayPal.

In September, Chesky told Fox Business that Airbnb received a lot of requests regarding crypto payments:

We have received a lot of requests for crypto payments over the years, I have nothing to report about that today.

In its initial public offering (IPO) prospectus, the company stated that it must adapt to cutting-edge technologies such as cryptocurrencies and blockchain in order to continue to be successful in the future.

AirBnb acquired bitcoin cash collection service ChangeTip in 2016.

It is worth noting that the CEO of Coinbase, Brian armstrong, one of the richest people in the world, is a former employee of Airbnb.

Airbnb's recent pivot to crypto comes amid competition from decentralized blockchain-based projects like Dtravel, a travel vacation rental launched by Travala.com.
